Luiz Davidovich, a Brazilian national and optical theoretician, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 1946. He is currently the President of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Secretary-General of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Executive Director of the International Science Council, and Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 1995, he was elected as a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and in 2000, he received the Brazilian National Scientific Merit Medal. In 2001, he received the Physics Award of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World. In 2003, he was elected as a member of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and in 2006, he was elected as a foreign member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. In 2009, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Optical Society, and in 2010, he received the Admiral Alvaro Albergotti Prize. In 2014, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society. In 2021, he was elected as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Professor Davidovich mainly engages in research in quantum optics and quantum information, making important academic contributions in fields such as quantum entanglement, laser theory, and quantum measurement. He has led teams in Europe and Brazil to make important contributions in areas such as cavity quantum electrodynamics, quantum decoherence, quantum entanglement, laser theory, and quantum metrology. He has specifically analyzed the role of the environment in the dynamics of quantum coherence and quantum entanglement, and has made practical contributions to theoretical development and experimental verification in quantum metrology. He has published more than 200 academic papers and books that have been cited more than ten thousand times.
